Geschichte
The story
The brief
Der Setzer has published since 1974. Its readers are compositors, teachers and collectors, and they notice everything. The old layout used four typefaces and no baseline.
The page
Six columns, a fixed baseline of eleven points, one text face and one display face. Article openers get a Fraktur drop cap set two lines deep, which is the only ornament in the issue. Captions hang in the margin.
The result
Subscriptions renewed at a record rate. Three readers wrote to say they had measured the margins.
For once the magazine is as good as the letters it writes about.
