The story
The brief
The archive’s old database showed nine fields per print in a single grey box. Researchers printed the pages to read them.
The table
We treated the archive like a printed catalogue: a hanging label column, a content column, hairlines between rows. Fraktur marks the collection names; everything else is grotesque.
The result
The archive published its whole catalogue and dropped its printing service. Load time is under a second.
Researchers found things in seconds that used to take an afternoon.
