The story
The brief
The rebuilt station opened with confusing signs and a queue at the information desk. The authority asked for a full replacement in eighteen months, without closing a platform.
The rules
One typeface, two sizes, four arrow angles. Platform numbers are set very large and are the only element that ever repeats on a wall. Fraktur appears once, on the historic hall plaque.
The result
Desk enquiries fell by 46 percent in the first quarter. Every sign is drawn from the same master grid.
People ask staff less. That is the whole review.
